On the afternoon of April 5, local time, the KVB Kunlun International 2010 ITTF Junior Circuit New Zealand Open kicked off at the Auckland Table Tennis Stadium. After two years of application, the Auckland Table Tennis Association finally received approval from the International Table Tennis Federation to become the host of this international table tennis event. The four-day competition attracted more than 220 junior competitors from 16 countries. This is the second time New Zealand has hosted an international junior table tennis event, and it received strong support from the national Ministry of Sport, the Auckland City Council, and people from all walks of life in New Zealand.
The opening ceremony was held enthusiastically with the traditional Kapa Haka welcome ceremony of New Zealand's Maori people. Representatives of the ITTF, Members of Parliament, and KVB Kunlun International representative Howard Wilcox delivered speeches as honored guests. Howard said that KVB Kunlun International was deeply honored to be the title sponsor of this international event, marking the third consecutive year the company has sponsored competitions for the Table Tennis New Zealand association. Table tennis is a traditional sport among Chinese people, and it is a source of great pride to see this activity flourishing among the youth of New Zealand, with outstanding players even qualifying for this August's Youth Olympic Games. As a Chinese enterprise operating overseas, watching the players strive with all their might on the court, we too feel the power of passion, effort, and progress!
Kevin Wu, only 15 years old and from New Zealand, is a favorite to win the New Zealand leg of this ITTF Junior Circuit. The results will be announced on April 9. On behalf of all Chinese people in New Zealand, KVB Kunlun International wishes the competition a complete success!
